Made in Istanbul
Ned’s first exhibition in Turkey was ‘tentative sketches’ of Istanbul; a collection of pen and ink drawings exhibited 09 July 1995, for one day only under the title of An Englishman in İstanbIl at a private apartment, Kemal Yalemdar Yalisi, Daire 3 Balta Limani Cad. 50, Rumeli Hisari, Istanbul. The last exhibition where I was physically present was themed upon Göbeklitepe, 02-19 November 2017, 42 Maslak, Istanbul.
“Like humanity itself, Istanbul is young yet old, vibrant yet decaying, traditional yet unconventional. There are few cities in the world that reflect the untethered human spirit, as does this one. These contrasts make Istanbul alive and fascinating and are embodied by her people. Sometimes it can feel impossible to do anything here, yet anything can seem possible in Istanbul.”
Ned Pamphilon 1997… and this sentiment still resonates.
